EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ FISTA Innovation Park hosts STEM Saturday on Jan. 10 from 9 a.m. to noon at its STEM Lab and Makerspace—students get hands-on with drone coding, flight paths, and teamwork while flying VEX drones. Register by emailing [email protected] to secure a spot. ABC 7
- ➤ Cameron University announced Friday that Kristine McCarty was named vice president for university advancement; she will serve as chief development and engagement officer to lead development, alumni engagement, and community outreach. She previously served on President Shane Hunt’s executive council. ABC 7
- ➤ A new report from the Oklahoma Tax Commission shows a tax credit program started in 2024 benefits families with incomes above the state average, with 70% earning more than $75,000. Data reveals most recipients enrolled in private schools, which has left rural public schools in Lawton at a disadvantage. ABC 7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Veterans with 70% or more service-connected disabilities can get free housing and care at seven state homes, which offer services (physical therapy, pharmacies, and community outings). The Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs runs the program so veterans maintain their income while receiving care in Lawton and beyond. ABC 7
