- ➤ The Oklahoma Commission on Children and Youth is accepting nominations for the 2026 Parent Leadership Awards to recognize parents driving leadership and advocacy statewide+ nominations are due by 5 p.m. on Feb. 2. ABC 7
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Cameron University will dismiss classes on Monday, Jan. 19 at its Lawton and Duncan campuses for MLK Day; its offices and library will close while the Aggie Rec Center stays open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Classes resume Tuesday — also the last day for spring course enrollment. ABC 7
- ➤ On Friday, Jan. 16, Senator Spencer Kern visited Geronimo High School and met with agriculture students to discuss how his Capitol work connects to local farming. The visit provided a hands-on perspective for the students on agriculture’s role in their community. ABC 7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lawton Area Transit System held its first hiring event on Wednesday offering roles as diesel mechanic + bus driver and detailer, and the final session for on-site interviews will be at 611 SW Bishop Road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ABC 7
