CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Lawton Public Library is hosting an arts and crafts workshop today for families prepping for Valentine’s Day. Participants will design light-up cards (using paper and other materials) from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the library. ABC 7
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Lawton Public Library will host a Take Your Child to the Library Day celebration on Saturday, Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. to noon at the library; children will enjoy themed stories, crafts and photo opportunities with Jasper Rabbit (from Jasper Rabbit’s Creepy Tales! series). ABC 7
- ➤ State Rep. Michelle McCane filed three bills to improve public education by giving public school employees the same benefits as state workers, limiting superintendent salaries to six times a first-year teacher's pay, and setting a $15 minimum hourly wage. ABC 7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Stitt issued two executive orders Thursday to improve higher education by enhancing data tracking and studying accelerated degrees in Oklahoma colleges (aiming to tie funding and tenure to clear job outcomes). The orders also set stricter review standards for future tenure contracts while current tenured staff remain under periodic review. ABC 7
