COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Four military veterans were inducted into the Oklahoma Military Hall of Honor this month during ceremonies hosted by the Comanche Indian Veterans Association; one event took place at the Comanche Nation Tribal Headquarters. The honorees include service members from various branches.  ABC 7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cameron University Theatre will present the Frog and Toad musical this weekend in Lawton. Actors have been rehearsing scenes to bring a delightful performance to the community.  The Lawton Constitution

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Senate Education Committee advanced Senate Bill 1790, which establishes a three-tier discipline system to help teachers manage classroom disruptions and protect staff. State Sen. Dusty Deevers and Lawton Public Schools educator Dr. Elizabeth Pleasant co-developed the bill, which will go to full Senate debate soon.  ABC 7
  • The Education Oversight Committee passed two higher education bills. One bill requires colleges to evaluate grades only by academics and the other mandates a review of degree programs every five years for potential suspension — both will head to a full House vote after an 8 to 1 committee vote.  ABC 7
  • Educator and international speaker Robert Jackson will present a free workshop on March 5 in Lawton to bridge communication among administrators, educators, parents & students.  The Lawton Constitution

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The 2026 C-UAS Forum at the FISTA in Lawton brought together Army leaders, industry experts and academics to discuss counter-drone strategies (including emerging technology and training). The two-day event concluded on Feb. 25.  ABC 7
  • Emergency Management Director Clint Langford announced a countywide burn ban in effect since Feb. 23 due to extreme fire danger—prohibiting fires, campfires, and fireworks until March 9 and imposing misdemeanor penalties for violations.  Southwest Ledger
