- ➤ Today, officials partnered with the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum to remember Rick L. Tomlin, 46, a motor vehicle safety officer who died on April 19 while talking to his wife; he was known for teaching school children about road safety, fixing a 1968 Plymouth Roadrunner, and enjoying Beatles music. His tribute is part of ongoing remembrances for the 168 lives lost in the Oklahoma City Bombing. ABC 7
- ➤ Yesterday, a gang awareness event hosted by Marie Detty Youth and Family Service took place at Lawton City Hall’s Banquet Room from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help prevent youth from joining gangs — now marking three years of service. Tomorrow, Lawton will hold an Open Streets event on SW C Ave from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., while Lawton Super Con at the Comanche County Fairgrounds and Picnic in the Park at Cache City Park will offer family activities and games — with tickets and food available at each event. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Comanche County woman is accused of animal cruelty after a veterinarian found that a pet she said had cancer was badly neglected and had to be put down—authorities issued a felony arrest warrant on Friday for Becky Marie Meade of Geronimo, and the crime carries penalties of up to five years in jail or a fine up to $5,000. - ➤ Lawton Police responded earlier today to a shooting on the 1800 block of Floyd Ave that left one person hospitalized — the Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the incident. ABC 7
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Comanche County Memorial Hospital is hosting its 19th annual Starlight Fundraiser at the Hilton Garden Inn tomorrow at 6:30 p.m., where proceeds will support women’s and children’s services by funding a new Safe Haven Baby Box at Lawton Fire Station 5 and advanced bedside monitors for newborn care.
