- ➤ The city will hold its annual Trash Off event Saturday, April 5—operating from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the McMahon Memorial Auditorium parking lot—to support the Kids First initiative by letting residents safely dispose of bulky and special waste items. Lawton residents with valid proof of address can join free while nonresidents will be charged a $25 entry fee. Southwest Ledger

- ➤ A Lawton man is in jail on a $75,000 bond after he allegedly shot his brother Friday night — officials are investigating the case. The Lawton Constitution
FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ State elected officials celebrated as S&P Global Ratings raised Oklahoma’s issuer credit rating to AA+ from AA, the highest in decades. S&P also upgraded appropriation-backed debt and rated an upcoming $256 million bond for the transportation department—reflecting strong financial oversight and efforts to diversify the state’s economy. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Election results are in for several local races in the region. Voters chose officials in contests including Cache and Elgin mayoralties as well as city council seats in Duncan, Hobart, Comanche, and Grandfield — and they approved measures for a hotel/motel tax, a renewed sales tax for Grady County, school funding in Velma-Alma, and a tax adjustment in Frederick. - ➤ Lawton officials awarded a $4.3M contract to T&G Construction to fix a mile-long section of 38th Street between Gore and Lee boulevards—T&G beat three other bidders with a bid 22.8% lower than the city’s estimate. The project will use deep impact repair on busy road sections and will be paid with ad valorem tax receipts. Southwest Ledger
- ➤ The Lawton City Council approved an altered budget for the Lawton Youth Sports Trust Authority and the design plan for a new indoor sports complex on the east side of town. City leaders said ADG Blatt architects will finish the design by mid-July—helping them figure out total costs that may range from $35 million to $60 million. Southwest Ledger
- ➤ The United States Army Field Artillery Museum on Fort Sill in Lawton shows nearly 250 years of artillery history and trains new soldiers through free exhibits since its opening in 2009. The museum welcomes public visitors and will serve about 12,000 soldiers this fiscal year—operating Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ABC 7
- ➤ The Oklahoma Opioid Abatement Board will award up to $29 million in grants to counties, cities, public schools and public trusts later this year to fund opioid treatment, recovery and education. Applications will be accepted from May 12 to June 11 (via the board’s webpage). Southwest Ledger
