- ➤ At a Homeless Action Committee meeting, the Lawton Salvation Army announced plans to upgrade its complex and add programs to help 320 homeless people during 2025 (Capt. Bryan Brinlee provided the goal). The Lawton Constitution
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ MIGHT Community Development and Resource Center & Work Ready Oklahoma will host a free job fair for local teenagers on April 8th from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Great Plains Technology Center Building 300, where businesses will offer training on interview skills and proper dress. ABC 7
- ➤ Cameron University will host its 2025 Leadership Summit on April 11 at 9 a.m. in the Mary Lou and W. Carey Johnson Auditorium where visual artist Richard Hight will discuss 'The Art of Inspiration.' Instructor Corey Sanders will open the event with 'Being Your Authentic Self' to help guests stay true to their values — a session set to inspire attendees. The Lawton Constitution
- ➤ Members of the Eisenhower Elementary Student Council have started a fundraiser where students are asked to donate at least $1 for St. Jude's—aiming to raise $1,500 by April 11. The Lawton Constitution
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Lawton Youth Sports Authority approved a contract on Thursday with ADG Blatt—an Oklahoma City design firm—to build the indoor youth sports complex once officials agree on who will own the project plans; final details will be discussed today with fees of $949,664 for the first design phases. - ➤ The Oklahoma City Thunder will hold a pop-up event in Lawton on April 18 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., featuring games, an interactive mobile experience and basketball drills led by Thunder Youth Basketball Coaches (tickets are not required). ABC 7
- ➤ MacArthur High School JROTC teams won state championships at the drill competition held March 29 in Oklahoma City. The UnArmed Drill Team led by LTC Abigail Benoit placed first in inspection and exhibition events while the Armed Drill Team commanded by MAJ Scott Mahrer and individuals like CPT Nicholas Godfrey and CPT Ian Barrois earned top honors—competing against over 150 teams.
