COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ On Saturday, Friendship Baptist Church in Lawton gave out free food, toiletries and more to community members in need during a four-hour event that helped dozens of people. The church said it will host similar outreach efforts at least once a month to support those who are struggling. ABC 7
- ➤ Today, a basketball game at Aggie Gym in Lawton drew many people despite the cold and taught about autism during Autism Awareness Month; one team even came from Santa Fe. Organizers from the Comanche Nation said they plan to have the event again next year (including Fire Chief Kyle Tahpay and Lieutenant Robert Chavez). ABC 7
- ➤ Cameron University and C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation will offer a free fishing event on April 19 at Elmer Thomas Park for children ages 6 to 18 with special needs; each child will receive a rod and reel, a tackle box, a t-shirt, a hat and an award plaque while a parent or guardian must stay with the child and family members are welcome for lunch and an awards ceremony. - ➤ Comanche County Industrial Development Authority accepted two lots valued at about $35,000 as partial repayment for a $215,000 loan from Cosmetic Specialty Labs— a family business led by CEO Jennifer Ellis— which closed in early 2024 after 51 years. The Lawton Constitution

- ➤ Lawton Police Department and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics arrested Hector Alexandro Gordils, 44, and Paul Escandon, 65, on March 29—seizing over 30 lbs of methamphetamine in a high yield drug bust. The Lawton Constitution
- ➤ Lawton police are investigating a body found by residents in the 1800 block of NW Baldwin, and detectives are working on the case. The Lawton Constitution

- ➤ The Holy City of the Wichitas will perform its 100th Easter Pageant Saturday, April 19 — the free event continues a nearly 100-year legacy that began when Reverend Anthony Mark Wallock was inspired by the Wichita Mountains. The Lawton Constitution
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City officials said that wait times at City Hall's utility payment drive-thru may increase during busy parts of the day—especially near the first of the month—because of higher traffic, so residents should remember the drive-thru is only for processing payments. The Lawton Constitution
- ➤ On Saturday, about two dozen protesters gathered at the corner of Southwest 38th Street and Gore Boulevard near Cameron Stadium, braving cold temperatures, high winds + loud car horns as they held 'Hands Off!' signs to protest actions by the nation’s administration and Department of Government Efficiency. - ➤ The Oklahoma Healthy Aging Initiative and Lawton Public Library are offering SAIL classes for older adults at the Patterson Center at 4 NE Arlington, with sessions held from 11 a.m. to noon on Mondays and Wednesdays until May 14.
