EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lawton Public Library is hosting a webinar today from 9-10 a.m. to explain how artificial intelligence is used to create and spread disinformation (helping attendees spot real versus fake content) at the main library.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rep Toni Hasenbeck introduced a bill to safeguard voluntary prayer in public schools by requiring written parental consent and prohibiting public address broadcasts, and the measure which passed House votes awaits Senate review to apply for the 2026 to 2027 school year if enacted.  Southwest Ledger
  • The Southwest 11th Street bridge reopened in Lawton after a full replacement project that rebuilt roadways, replaced a pair of bridges, laid new asphalt, rerouted a water line, and installed a concrete box culvert. City officials are finalizing sod and signage and urge caution.  ABC 7
  • Residents were alerted about possible lead in service lines, but Cotton County Rural Water District #2 confirmed its inventory found no lead lines despite some unknowns (tests for lead and copper continue every three years), so no action is needed.  ABC 7
  • Two workers repaired the light fixtures above the Central Plaza parking lot at 200 SW C on Wednesday morning as part of an ongoing project this week.  The Lawton Constitution
