COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lawton FFA is holding its annual Plant Sale on Friday and Saturday in Lawton—local gardeners can find plants to spruce up their yards.  The Lawton Constitution
  • Residents on Aberdeen Avenue in Lawton seek more safety measures after a drunk driving incident was caught on camera and multiple vehicle incidents on the curvy street raised concerns over children's safety—with calls for a lower speed limit or speed bump installation.  ABC 7
  • Co-chairs (Sylvia Moore and Susan Nance) of the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary described the upcoming fundraising event today, which includes a silent auction, style show, and luncheon (set for later this week) during Community Conversations.  ABC 7
  • Today, KSWO partners with the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum to honor the 168 lives lost in the Oklahoma City Bombing by remembering William Stephen Williams (a 42-year-old Social Security Administration operations supervisor from Cashion known for his honesty and hard work). His close friend said he reached out on April 7 for help with a song he was writing, and those affected by the tragedy are also being acknowledged.  ABC 7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cameron University ended its 2024-25 theatre season with a world premiere of a devised production—created by students and faculty that centers on the theme 'Our.'  The Lawton Constitution

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • FISTA Innovation Park's governing board selected contractors to install two anechoic chambers and a building that will house them in Lawton — project work is expected to begin soon.  The Lawton Constitution
  • Governor Kevin Stitt announced his fourth appointment to the Oklahoma Supreme Court on April 14th by selecting Travis Jett, citing his deep legal experience. Jett (who has served in multiple courtroom roles) is expected to uphold the state Constitution and apply the law fairly for Oklahomans.  ABC 7

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Proposed plans for the old Hoffman's Pub and Grill in downtown Lawton meet the area's zoning requirements and may give the site new life—officials are reviewing the proposal as redevelopment moves forward.  The Lawton Constitution
