COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ A book sale is planned to benefit Lawton Food Bank and support local food programs in Lawton soon. Organizers expect to share venue and schedule details shortly. The Lawton Constitution
- ➤ Center for Creative Living in Lawton will host a Cinco de Mayo fundraiser lunch on Tuesday, May 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. with $13 plates including tacos, enchiladas and tres leches cake — funds will support programs and a Fiesta Funday raffle will be drawn May 6. ABC 7
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Leslie Powell Gallery will open two art exhibitions in May: Beauteous Maximus by Tania Landers and Between the Front Door and the Kitchen Sink by Abigail Rainey. A reception is scheduled on May 16 (6 p.m. to 8 p.m.) and the exhibitions run until June 26. ABC 7
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ FFA students from southwest Oklahoma competed in Cameron University's annual agricultural interscholastic competition on April 10, featuring several ag-related categories. The event showcased skills in areas such as Ag Sales, Food Science, and Veterinary Science. ABC 7
- ➤ Lawton Public Schools and Lawton Area Transit System have kept a nine-year agreement that lets students and staff ride buses free + the service remains active for all LPS riders throughout the school year in Lawton. The Lawton Constitution
- ➤ Cameron University celebrated students who excelled in communication and writing on April 21 in a ceremony held by the school’s communication and English departments (winners included students from Lawton and nearby campuses). ABC 7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The state House unanimously approved Senate Bill 1436, which requires hospitals to provide paperwork for fetal death or stillbirth certificates, and the bill now heads to Governor Stitt for final review. ABC 7
