BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ A Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City survey showed that regional manufacturing activity grew last month in the Tenth District (including Lawton) as firms reported higher raw material and transportation costs. Business leaders say instability may prompt a midyear price raise. Southwest Ledger
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ More than $32 million in broadband funding will expand high-speed internet for residents in Caddo, Comanche, Kiowa, Grady, Washita and Tillman counties. Funding recipients include Resound Networks, Southwest Oklahoma Telephone Company and Trace Fiber Networks. ABC 7
- ➤ AEP Transco will begin a $260M, multiyear project to rebuild a 70-mile 345-kV transmission line from the Lawton Eastside substation near Highway 7, replacing aging wooden poles (with new BOLD lattice towers) across Comanche, Stephens, and Carter counties starting in July; a new substation for solar integration is also planned. - ➤ Jon Jernigan & Antonio Hopson from Clean and Safe Neighborhood services explained during an interview on Apr. 30 how they enforce local codes and previewed plans for the upcoming Trash Off event to keep neighborhoods tidy. ABC 7
- ➤ Lawton city officials approved engineering plans for a boardwalk, amphitheater and trail at Elmer Thomas Park to boost the new Aquatic Center, and they will soon solicit bids + further project details will be shared. The Lawton Constitution
