CRIME NEWS

  • On Thursday, Lawton police ended a six-hour standoff—taking the suspect into custody after serving an arrest warrant for gun charges.  The Lawton Constitution

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cameron University is offering six different business programs, including majors in business administration and accounting, to help students get career-ready. The department gives real-world training through internships (like one with Arvest) and enrollment is open for new students.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A bill that prohibits corporal punishment on students with disabilities passed the House this week and now goes to the governor for approval. Senator Dave Rader said educators must use patience & understanding when addressing behavioral issues in classrooms.  ABC 7
  • The U.S. Army launched its Army Transformation Initiative today to reshape its force structure and deliver new warfighting capabilities at Fort Sill. Local officials noted that further details will be shared as the plan’s impact is reviewed.  ABC 7
  • Fort Sill held a graduation ceremony on Friday for 220 basic combat trainees and honored Specialist Amelia Vazquez, a 68W from Parrish, FL, as a distinguished honor graduate who will serve in the Army National Guard.  ABC 7

HEALTH NEWS

  • Oklahoma health officials reported one additional measles case today, bringing the state total to 16, while Texas updated its count to 683 cases (20 more than Tuesday's update and nearly 96% in unvaccinated people). Officials advise everyone to check public exposure notifications to stay informed.  ABC 7
