  • Camp George Thomas will celebrate its 90th anniversary on Saturday as scouts, their families, and past visitors gather in Lawton — the event marks nearly nine decades of local history.  The Lawton Constitution

  • A Lawton Correctional Facility inmate told his Behavioral Health Clinician he felt better now after stabbing and partially decapitating his cellmate on March 5.  The Lawton Constitution

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Great 580 Youth Art Expo will hold its 7th annual art contest on Friday at Cameron Baptist Church—2621 SW C and will feature art by elementary students.  The Lawton Constitution
  • During today's Community Conversations, Ronda Norrell, Festival Chair for Arts for All, said the upcoming 51st Arts for All Festival in Lawton will feature artist booths, esports, food concessions, and live entertainment — drawing local visitors to enjoy the event.  ABC 7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lawton Public Library will run a summer reading program from June 1 to July 31 to help children avoid the summer slide—kids need to read five books and log them on Beanstack without requiring a library card.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Emerson Kate Cole Act is headed to Governor Kevin Stitt’s desk as it would require school staff to call 9-1-1 immediately after administering an Epi-Pen and to notify a student’s guardian. The bill, named after Emerson Kate Cole (who died of an allergic reaction in 2023), also mandates annual food allergy training for teachers and staff.  ABC 7
  • On May 7, 2025, Governor Stitt vetoed a bill that would have expanded diagnostic mammogram access—he said the bill would have imposed new and costly insurance mandates on private health plans.  ABC 7
  • Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins testified before Congress this week on plans to improve VA services, saying veterans will get fast, efficient help when needed—he shared his vision during a virtual interview with 7News Anchor Dan Threlkeld. Good Morning Texoma will feature the discussion tomorrow—offering more insight into the proposed changes.  ABC 7
  • Former Oklahoma Attorney General Mike Hunter sued the State Board of Education, saying he will represent a group of citizens to challenge the board’s process for adopting new social studies standards — during a news conference today he said he will call all board members as witnesses and ask a judge for a restraining order to stop the standards from taking effect.  ABC 7
