- ➤ Lawton’s Trash Off is rescheduled for Saturday, May 17 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at McMahon Memorial Auditorium’s parking lot after the April 26 event was postponed due to inclement weather. Residents dispose of bulky or hazardous items for free with valid ID, while nonresidents pay a $25 fee (cash or check accepted). Southwest Ledger
- ➤ Grants of up to $5,000 are now available for Lawton-area charitable organizations to support new or expanding projects. Local groups can apply for the funds—aimed at boosting community services and growth. The Lawton Constitution

- ➤ Comanche County Memorial Hospital will host a free week-long summer camp for high school students from June 9th to June 13th in Lawton. The Lawton Constitution
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Congresswoman Bice signed House Joint Resolution 24 into law on May 10 at the White House. The resolution permanently nullifies Biden-era regulations on walk-in coolers and freezers+ easing financial pressure on small businesses. Southwest Ledger
- ➤ The City of Lawton launched a new map on its website that shows road closures and waterline repair work — a tool to help residents plan their travel around upcoming repairs. The Lawton Constitution
- ➤ FISTA approved changes to construction contracts on May 6 that cap costs for two Innovation Park projects at $2.38 million. Dr. Krista Ratliff said QUAD Construction will build tenant suites for about $1.63 million and CDBL Professional Construction will build space for Picogrid and a fire vestibule for about $753,369—while funds remain available to cover the work. - ➤ The state Senate has not yet scheduled a vote on a bill that would protect utility customers from paying extra fees tied to Winter Storm Uri—House Bill 1220 passed unanimously in the House and was amended by the Senate Energy Committee. If delayed, the bill could add an estimated $60 million—$100 million in franchise fees to customer bills over 25 years. Southwest Ledger
- ➤ The Lawton Youth Sports Trust Authority voted unanimously on May 8 to approve a schematic design for a new youth sports complex on 120 acres near MacArthur High School and has moved into the design development phase.
