- ➤ Today, Eisenhower High School will hold a pinning ceremony at 6 p.m. for pre-nursing students while the Lawton Public Library accepts its final summer internship applications from teens and the Soldier for Life Transition Campus hosts a hiring event from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Additional Military Appreciation Day events are planned this weekend in nearby areas to honor veterans and their families. - ➤ A 51-year-old Lawton man was found guilty of killing his girlfriend — the verdict came after a pre-sentence investigation — and he will serve a life sentence. The Lawton Constitution
- ➤ A woman is held on a $1 million bond in Lawton—she is accused of killing her estranged husband in 2023. The Lawton Constitution
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Attorney General Gentner Drummond criticized Governor Kevin Stitt’s veto of Senate Bill 574, saying the decision could worsen Oklahoma’s opioid crisis and lead to preventable deaths — the bill would have allowed the Opioid Abatement Board more flexibility with grant eligibility and added public colleges for funding opportunities. - ➤ The City of Lawton is settling legal action against the former Great Plains Improvement Foundation — the settlement will resolve the dispute between city officials and the foundation. The Lawton Constitution
