- ➤ Crosby Park Elementary student Serenity Colbert-Whitelow led a cleanup in the Crosby Park neighborhood that was scheduled for April 26 and nearly did not happen — neighbors joined the effort to improve local conditions. The Lawton Constitution
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Indiahoma Public School was awarded the Oklahoma Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant to support new literacy programs—one of twenty awards given statewide to boost reading initiatives. The Lawton Constitution
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Kevin Stitt released an update on ongoing investigations into the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health after the agency reported payroll issues earlier this month. The May 19 report identified a nearly $30 million funding need for fiscal year 2025 — along with 52 recommendations to stabilize the department. ABC 7
- ➤ The City Council will review proposals for temporary fixes for roof leaks at the Museum of the Great Plains and will consider adding $725,000 to ongoing upgrades at McMahon Memorial auditorium — the measures aim to reduce damage while work continues. The Lawton Constitution
- ➤ Lawton City Council is meeting today at 2 p.m. to review the preliminary budget for 2025-2026 — the meeting is a month later than normal. The Lawton Constitution
- ➤ Lawton Representative Daniel Pae authored House Bill 2011—known as the Fighting Chance for Firefighters Act—to provide a tax credit of up to $250 a year for unreimbursed cancer screening costs incurred by firefighters. Governor Stitt will review the bill, and if signed, the credit could start in the 2026 tax year. ABC 7
