BUSINESS NEWS

  • KSWO anchor Dan Threlkeld interviewed FISTA President and CEO Dr. Krista Ratliff at Central Plaza in Lawton, where she discussed topics—funding, transparency, perceived conflicts of interest, economic impact and future plans. The conversation provided insights into the accelerator’s role in the local innovation scene.  ABC 7

CRIME NEWS

  • A driver hit a Lawton Police cruiser at Southwest 2nd and Lee early Friday morning when the officer’s vehicle was stopped at a red light (he has been arrested and charged with aggravated DUI) and the crash remained under investigation.  ABC 7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lawton Public Schools is offering a free summer lunch program for students 18 and under starting Monday—families can take advantage of the service throughout the summer break. The program is designed to support students when school is out of session.  The Lawton Constitution
  • Lupi Construction began work on a 2,640-square-foot pig barn at the Lawton Public Schools farm on West Lee Boulevard—construction is expected to finish when school starts.  The Lawton Constitution

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Oklahoma Broadband Office has launched its new Broadband Dashboard to show data on broadband expansion from project permitting to when service goes live. The tool lets viewers filter data by county, congressional district and state legislative district to follow progress.  ABC 7
  • Oklahoma lawmakers overrode Gov. Kevin Stitt's veto of House Bill 1389 that would expand insurance coverage for breast cancer screening by including contrast-enhanced mammograms and molecular breast imaging. The override passed with an 83-to-3 vote.  ABC 7
  • The City of Lawton is considering a new trust authority—meant to manage actions related to homelessness—and officials will review proposals soon. Further details on the trust's structure and responsibilities are expected to be released later.  The Lawton Constitution
