- ➤ JCPenney renewed its lease at Central Plaza for five years after a May 29 interview with Dr. Krista Ratliff, who said current retailers will stay while new stores are pursued to fill empty spaces. This move comes as the plaza works to attract additional businesses. ABC 7
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Lawton teen was charged in a May 25 shooting near Cameron University and was detained on a $250,000 bond—police identified him as the vehicle's driver using a license plate reader. The Lawton Constitution
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Lawton Montessori will open its new facility at 801 SW. B Ave. on August 1 to offer preschool and kindergarten programs—using the Montessori method to let children learn basic skills and tasks like cooking and planting. ABC 7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Fort Sill held a graduation for about 450 soldiers who finished basic training this week plus two distinguished honor graduates, Pvt 2nd class Morris Hartman from Illinois and Pvt 2nd class Dalya Henderson from Texas, will soon join the Army National Guard. ABC 7
- ➤ The Oklahoma Legislature overrode Gov. Kevin Stitt's veto of a bill that would provide state funds for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons office, ensuring the funding process moves forward. The Lawton Constitution
- ➤ On Friday, the State Regents allocated Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations that include funds for a new STEM education facility and a cybersecurity plan at Cameron University—additional allocations also went to high-demand programs at OU and UCO.
