COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Salvation Army is planning to open a new thrift store location in Lawton to provide more resources for homeless residents—this move addresses issues with its current site.  The Lawton Constitution

CRIME NEWS

  • The OSBI Cold Case Unit and Comanche County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the 2019 unsolved murder of Detric Malik—efforts continue to find his killer in Lawton.  The Lawton Constitution

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fort Sill said in a statement that it is working to find new homes for the horses after the Army revealed its plan to reduce the Military Working Equid program and Lawton residents expressed concern about losing the historic Artillery Half Section; community members are preparing a petition to keep this iconic part of the base. The base said its focus remains on training and readiness as the 2-2 Field Artillery Battalion mascots Big Deuce + Short Round will remain on site.  ABC 7
  • Today, Tarra Jones and Dave Hunter hosted OSBI’s Public Information Manager, Hunter McKee, who updated viewers on how the bureau uses technology and warned about its risks + outlined OSBI's goals for future improvements.  ABC 7
  • Today, City Manager John Ratliff joined 7News anchors Haley Wilson and Dave Hunter on the In the Community segment to discuss proposed changes to the Lawton charter. Ratliff explained that if passed, the proposals will extend the employee probationary period and add a True North Culture Statement.  ABC 7

SPORTS NEWS

  • Olympic Gold Medalist Amit Elor will coach an all-girls wrestling clinic in Cache this summer to help young girls learn the sport. The camp costs $150, lasts five hours, and includes a free camp shirt and lunch (Cache Wrestling Coach Charles Fox said the event is a first for the area).  ABC 7

  • 3rd annual set free praise dance conference

    This community event is to encourage and empower our youth and young adults to use their gift of dance to build their relationship with God and draw others to Him. We are also bridging the generational gap with our youth to mentor and share life experiences to help them become servant leaders. Friday night will be a night of praise and worship, with instruction on the importance of covering as ministers and how colors have important meaning. Saturday will be all-day workshops including dance technique, mime, and lyrical dance. Each dancer will have two dance workshops based on their training and experience.
