Lawton native Petty Officer 1st Class Raven Beach joined the USS Richard McCool Jr.'s first Oklahoma visit by traveling to Tishomingo and Oklahoma City from July 2-7 to honor the ship’s namesake Capt. Richard McCool Jr.; she credits her strong upbringing with aiding her Navy service.

Fire crews contained a large grass fire southwest of Lawton Tuesday as a wall of white smoke marked the site during the incident.

On Tuesday, July 14, Kiowa Chairman David Sullivan joined anchors Tarra Jones and Dave Hunter in a local segment to discuss the Kiowa Gourd Clan Ceremonials, the tribe’s self-governance notice, and the Youth Council’s role at the National UNITY Conference 50th Anniversary.

A City of Lawton crew replaced a cracked section of eastbound Cache Road (between 23rd and 24th Streets) on Tuesday after extreme heat caused the road to buckle.
Comanche County-Lawton Emergency Management (partnering with CI International) will host a free wildfire preparedness meeting on Tuesday, July 28 at 6 p.m. at the Medicine Park Event site to help residents learn about wildfire safety.

CJ Carr advanced in Hasbro's 2026 Toddler of the Year competition as his family hopes local votes help him secure a top-five finish; voting closes Thursday at 9 p.m. His father said his progress also brings attention to Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease.
Our Blood Institute hosts a blood drive today at Marie Detty Youth and Family Services from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Donors receive a free limited-edition T-shirt + a ticket to a local theme park along with extra incentives.
