COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Oklahoma Policy Institute and Together Oklahoma are hosting the Lawton Listening Session 2025 today at 6 p.m. at Cameron University’s McMahon Centennial Complex — Buddy Green Room 213 to let community members and policy experts share concerns over housing, economic well-being and healthcare, with food provided and a stipend offered to registered participants.  ABC 7

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Lawton firefighters battled an overnight house fire on the 1100 block of NW Maple Avenue Wednesday morning — the home appeared occupied and officials are investigating the cause.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawton city officials plan to open a new aquatics center at Elmer Thomas Park in August—further details about the facility’s features have not yet been released.  The Lawton Constitution
  • Residents at the Edith Kassanavoid Gordon Assisted Living Center got a 90-day notice on July 1 that the facility will close at the end of September, leaving many worried about where they will live. Comanche Nation officials said this move—meant to save around $1 million—will replace the center with vouchers for private care while residents claim they were not clearly informed.  ABC 7
  • The Comanche Nation is closing the Edith Kassanavoid Gordon Assisted Living Center—official details on the transition have not been provided.  The Lawton Constitution

HEALTH NEWS

  • Southwestern Medical Center was named one of 100 top hospitals in the 2025 Becker’s Hospital Review released on July 11 — the review honors community hospitals known for quality care.  The Lawton Constitution

EVENTS

  • 3rd annual set free praise dance conference

    This community event is to encourage and empower our youth and young adults to use their gift of dance to build their relationship with God and draw others to Him. We are also bridging the generational gap with our youth to mentor and share life experiences to help them become servant leaders. Friday night will be a night of praise and worship, with instruction on the importance of covering as ministers and how colors have important meaning. Saturday will be all-day workshops including dance technique, mime, and lyrical dance. Each dancer will have two dance workshops based on their training and experience.
