  • Rush Springs' 2025 Watermelon Queen is preparing for the 80th Annual Watermelon Festival—an event that began as a local picnic in the 1940s and will continue to bring the community together.  The Lawton Constitution

CRIME NEWS

  • A Lawton man pleaded guilty to nonconsensual sex with his first cousin after a night of drinking—he will serve eight years in prison.  The Lawton Constitution

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cameron University is offering several paths for future teachers through a traditional program with field experience and the Inspire to Teach program, which provides up to $25,500 in scholarships. Dr. Stacie Garrett said non-education majors can earn a Master’s in Education or receive a provisional license after one boot camp class — giving many new options for those who want to teach.  ABC 7
  • Lawton Public Schools is returning to Infinite Campus after feedback showed the new Sylogist system did not meet expectations—new families must re-register to enroll students. Student schedules will be delayed while staff work to have hard copies ready for pick-up.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials in Lawton say they are moving closer to launching the Goodyear Boulevard extension project, which has been in discussion for years — construction is expected to start soon.  The Lawton Constitution
  • The construction crew milled the roadway on the north side of the tracks in the northbound lanes of Southwest 38th Street just south of Dr. Elsie Hamm Drive, speeding progress on the project by T&G Construction. Officials said the work will improve traffic flow for area drivers.  The Lawton Constitution
