GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Six Comanche County Detention Center employees received lifesaving awards on July 28 for their quick actions during a critical incident on July 16—when they saved an inmate who was trying to harm himself, officials said. Southwest Ledger
- ➤ The Comanche County Board of Commissioners voted 3-0 on July 28 to let the Fairgrounds Authority decide on hiring a construction manager at risk for water and sewer upgrades at the fairgrounds. The Authority will hire the engineer who designed the plans while the county reviews competitive bids for the ARPA-funded project. Southwest Ledger
- ➤ Comanche County Election Board Secretary Amy Sims said Lawton voters who want absentee ballots for the Sept. 9 special election must apply by 5 p.m. on Aug. 25 using the OK Voter Portal or by picking up a form at the election board office (315 SW Fifth St., Room 206) and then allow time for notarization and mailing back their ballots. - ➤ Lawton residents who want to vote in the Sept 9 special elections must register by Aug 15 by submitting an application online, by mail if postmarked by midnight, or in person at the county election board office at 315 SW Fifth St., Room 206, which is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.—late applications will be processed after the election.
