- ➤ Cameron University will begin its Visiting Writer Series on Friday as part of a program led by the Departments of Communications, English, and Foreign Languages—inviting notable authors to share their work. The Lawton Constitution
- ➤ Cameron University in Lawton focused on long-term student success during its first week of classes by using its small size to offer one-on-one support — a move that is expected to help students adjust to the new term. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Yesterday, Governor Stitt signed seven bills from Southwest Oklahoma lawmakers in a ceremonial event. Representative Caldwell’s bills lowered the top personal income tax rate with a trigger to phase out the tax if revenue benchmarks are met—Senator Howard’s measure aims to block secret foreign funding of lawsuits in Oklahoma courts. - ➤ Applications for Lawton’s 2025 elk hunt drawing are now available at the Lakes Headquarters (5215 NW Tackle Box Road) and the City Clerk’s Office (212 SW Ninth St.), and they can also be downloaded online. Applicants must submit a $25 fee, a valid Oklahoma hunting license, and their forms by 5 p.m. Sept. 12, and the drawing will be held at 4:15 p.m. Sept. 17 at the City Hall Banquet Room. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Lawton’s youth sports complex could generate nearly $500 million over 20 years for local coffers, a report said during an Aug. 11 meeting of the Youth Sports Trust Authority.
