COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Rooted in Ranch Oak Reunion will take place in Lawton this Labor Day weekend from Friday through Sunday — events are scheduled at the Hilton Garden Inn and George. The Lawton Constitution
- ➤ The Lawton Public Library is hosting a free pop-up event at Elmer Thomas Park today where kids will join a StoryWalk reading at 5 p.m.—the first 50 arriving children will get a free Kona Ice snow cone. Participants ages from zero to 10 and their caregivers will take part in hands-on crafts and dancing during the event. ABC 7
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Lawton officials said the murder trial set for Monday was delayed—potential evidence turned over last Friday may help clear the accused. The Lawton Constitution
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ AAF Flanders announced that its Ardmore facility, where 120 workers are employed, will close permanently by December and is working with the local community to help affected employees transfer to other plants—this move is part of a broader realignment plan. ABC 7
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Last week, FISTA broke ground on an anechoic chamber on the south side of Lawton’s Central Plaza—this $10 million project funded by a grant will give students hands-on learning and allow defense partners to test R&D. The building is expected to be completed in January and the chamber installed afterward. ABC 7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Taron Epps was recently selected to fill the vacant Lawton Ward 2 council seat — he will be sworn in at the next city council meeting on September 9th. ABC 7
