COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Lawton Food Bank celebrated 40 years on Wednesday at its headquarters—unveiling a new logo and sharing plans for the future.  The Lawton Constitution

CRIME NEWS

  • A former educator—indicted in a 2005 ghost employee scam—is now in jail on a $75,000 bond.  The Lawton Constitution

CULTURE NEWS

  • Medicine Park is hosting the 19th Mayor’s Blues Ball today at 7 p.m.—organizers will hold three days of blues music with local entertainers tonight and musicians from across Oklahoma starting at noon on Saturday and Sunday.  ABC 7
  • Cameron University hosted visual artist Don Crouch on Thursday at McCutcheon Recital Hall where he gave a lecture at 6 p.m. and his free art exhibition 'Myth and Reality: Western Masters' began at 7:30 p.m. in the Art Teaching Gallery—offering a look at his work inspired by the American West.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Early voting for the special elections will begin on Sept. 4 and continue Sept. 5 (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.), with all registered voters able to vote without an excuse, as stated by Comanche County Election Board Secretary Amy Sims. Those needing accommodations may contact the voting office directly.  ABC 7
  • Lawton residents in Ward 4 will vote on Sept. 9 in the City Council primary election as five candidates—including incumbent George Gill, Andrew Norris, Ronald Ballew, Tiffiney Dimery, and David Stebleton—run for a seat. Norris and Ballew focus on reducing the city's $40 million debt while Stebleton and Dimery stress economic expansion and community development, and runoff elections will follow on Nov. 18 if needed.  ABC 7
  • Lawton Police Department announced tryout dates for people who want to become officers — physical agility tests will be held on September 15th at 6:00 P.M., September 17th at 3:00 P.M., and September 20th at 9:00 A.M. A written exam is set for September 27th and the training academy will start on February 2nd, 2026.  ABC 7

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Oklahoma State Department of Health is asking rural residents and healthcare workers for input on a state plan to invest $50 billion in a Rural Health Transformation Program. Public comments can be submitted until Sept. 5 — a regional listening session is planned for September.  ABC 7
