- ➤ The Comanche County Free Fair will be held from Sept. 2 to 6 at the Comanche County Fairgrounds. The event will feature Farm Field Days, Farm Hand Olympics, animal shows, and contests including tractor driving and pie contests. ABC 7
- ➤ Menes Shrine Temple #32 is hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser today at VFW Post 1193 from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.—tickets cost $10 and will include pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, grits, biscuits, coffee and juice. ABC 7
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Rising Eagle Brewery in Elgin became the nation’s first Purple Heart brewery after combat veteran founders Thomas and Angela Hardin launched a special Doctor Sims ale to honor local Purple Heart chapter member Matthew Sims. The brewery celebrates military service with a menu inspired by the founders’ past deployments. ABC 7
- ➤ Comanche Nation Entertainment said War Pony Casino near Devol will close on September 24 (no reason was given) after opening in 2022. The company also announced plans to expand the nearby Red River Hotel and Casino with an event center, 150 additional slot machines, 15 table games, new bar and food service areas and nongaming attractions including an arcade and virtual golf suites. - ➤ Fort Sill’s 2-20th Field Artillery Battalion conducted an M2 .50-caliber machine gun qualification range to keep soldiers ready—this exercise helps them stay proficient with a weapon used for over a century. ABC 7
