EDUCATION NEWS

  • A survey by USA Today and Statista placed two Southwest Oklahoma vocational schools in the nation’s top 250, with Great Plains Technology Center in Lawton earning a five-star rating—ranked 38 while Caddo Kiowa Technology Center in Fort Cobb received a four-star rating ranked 127.  ABC 7
  • The Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence (OFE) in Lawton has opened nominations for its annual Medal for Excellence awards to honor five educators for their passion and innovation in teaching. The awardees will be celebrated at the 40th Annual Academic Awards Celebration in May, with nominations now being accepted.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Comanche County Commissioners plan to restore funding to four county departments as they work on planning for the new fiscal year—this move aims to ensure the departments receive essential resources.  The Lawton Constitution

HEALTH NEWS

  • Stop Soldier Suicide — a national non-profit that offers suicide prevention resources to active-duty service members and veterans — has asked Fort Sill to join the upcoming Never Walk Alone 30-mile Dog Walk Challenge.  The Lawton Constitution

  • Chevy Townsell is a 9-year-old wrestler from Lawton who has earned four state titles and world jiu-jitsu wins and is now competing for the national Youth Athlete of the Year title — his family asks local voters to cast a free vote each day as he prepares for upcoming tournaments.  ABC 7
