COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Members of the Lawton Police and Fire Departments participated in the annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on Sept. 6 at the Oklahoma Tower in Oklahoma City—honoring 343 firefighters and first responders who died on Sept. 11, 2001.  ABC 7
  • Fort Sill will hold its annual 9/11 remembrance ceremony and run on September 11th—participants will check in at 7 a.m. at McNair Hall for a 7:40 a.m. ceremony before starting a 4-mile run or ruck and a 1-mile walk; the event is free but extra gear costs $35 with registration.  ABC 7

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Amethyst and Ink Books opened in Lawton—this is the city’s first bookstore in years to offer new titles to local readers.  The Lawton Constitution

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the City Council will review an audience participation policy and two proposals to boost meeting performance—these discussions are set to shape future governing measures in our community.  The Lawton Constitution
  • The Lawton City Council swore in Ward Two’s new Councilmember TaronEpps on Sept. 8—at the meeting, the council also considered two grants for the Lawton Police Department and measures to boost fiscal efficiency.  ABC 7

HEALTH NEWS

  • The mobile wellness unit from the Oklahoma State Department of Health District 5 is coming to Lawton tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Family Promise—offering free services like screenings, immunizations and body scans for both adults and children.  ABC 7
