COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lawton firefighters participated in the 14th Annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on Saturday at Leadership Square and Oklahoma Tower in Oklahoma City—honoring those affected by 9/11 as they gathered for a group photo.  The Lawton Constitution

CRIME NEWS

  • The Lawton Police Department is investigating a shooting in downtown Lawton near 5th Street and C Avenue where a vehicle was struck by gunfire—no injuries have been reported.  ABC 7

FINANCE NEWS

  • CVS Caremark settled with the state as the Attorney General’s office announced it paid $32.1 million, with $27 million directed to HealthChoice after fees. The company must also deliver additional rebates for 2020-2024 and future payments to the plan within 90 days—steps meant to benefit families and retirees.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Comanche County Board of Commissioners appointed local businessman Edward Hilliary to fill a vacancy on the Industrial Development Authority on Sept. 2, replacing George Moses who resigned in August—his term lasts until June 30, 2026.  Southwest Ledger
  • On Sept. 9, the Lawton City Council swore in Ward 2 Councilmember Taron Epps, ordered owners of dilapidated homes to fix issues through legal action, and noted that one city audit might be delayed, with its deadline set in December. The council also moved public comment to the end of meetings after three citizens complained of being ignored and treated harshly—Mayor Stan Booker asked for a report on how local cities handle comments.  ABC 7
  • Comanche County District 1 voted on Sept. 2 to apply for a $75,000 REAP grant+ to replace and upgrade roads in the Lake Ellsworth Addition northeast of Lake Ellsworth. Commissioner Ryan John will lead the project, and if the grant is approved, the road work will be completed within one year.  Southwest Ledger
  • On Tuesday, Sept. 9, Fort Sill Public Affairs official Bryan Araujo joined 7News anchors to talk about upcoming Fort Sill events — including a Remembrance Run and a Paint and Sip event that will take place soon.  ABC 7
  • Lawton voters cast their ballots Tuesday in local elections where Kirby Brown won the Ward 3 council seat and Allan Hampton won in Ward 5 plus Ward 4 will go to a runoff while voters approved the True North charter and an Altus tax for parks and recreation but rejected the council probation amendment; voters also approved a bond for Anadarko Public Schools to fund renovations.  ABC 7
