COMMUNITY NEWS

  • National non-profit Carry the Load — in partnership with the VA — is hosting a National Day of Service and Remembrance today at Fort Sill National Cemetery where volunteers will clean headstones and beautify the grounds to honor service members, veterans, first responders and their families. Participants must follow guidelines that require no pets and that children under 14 be accompanied by an adult.  ABC 7
  • Southwest Oklahoma Police Narcotic K9 Competition will join the Cops and Kids Picnic at Elmer Thomas Park on Saturday as families watch K9 demonstrations and community activities—attendees may hear sirens and see flashing red and blue lights during the event.  The Lawton Constitution
  • Today, the Patriot Community Hiring Event will be held at Lawton Farmers Market—starting at 9:30 a.m. for veterans and 10 a.m. for the general public and ending at 2 p.m.  ABC 7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge will start a controlled burn today near Quanah Parker Lake—areas will be closed to visitors during this activity.  The Lawton Constitution

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Council members agreed Tuesday to move the public comment session to the end of meetings — a change aimed at controlling speaker engagement during sessions.  The Lawton Constitution

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Simulation Center of Southwest Oklahoma at CCMH is hosting a Back to School Bash today from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Comanche County Memorial Hospital to offer resources for those seeking a career in healthcare or a return to school—attendees will learn about transition programs.  ABC 7
