COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At the Lawton Farmers Market yesterday, the Patriot Hiring Event offered veterans and community members the chance to interview with local businesses (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and enjoy food trucks; it was organized by the South Central Workforce Board and partners.  ABC 7
  • On Thursday at dawn, thousands of soldiers, families and community members began Fort Sill's annual 9/11 remembrance ruck run to mark the 24th anniversary of the event — a tribute to those lost in 9/11.  The Lawton Constitution

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Comanche Nation teamed up with the Oklahoma Drug and Alcohol Professional Counselor Association for a tribal response to suicide prevention over two days at the Apache Hotel and Casino — keynote speaker Danny Trejo urged those struggling with addiction or mental illness to seek help.  ABC 7
  • Open Streets will take place on September 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on C Avenue from 2nd to 5th Street in downtown Lawton—offering a block of inflatables, obstacle courses and free cooking demonstrations to help families enjoy outdoor play and boost children's health.  ABC 7
