- ➤ Women from Texoma and beyond attended the annual Southwest Oklahoma Women’s Business Summit at the Great Plains Technology Center in Lawton on Thursday morning, where local entrepreneur Dr. Rose Lepien and motivational speaker Amy Downs shared advice on researching business opportunities before startup—highlighting the value of careful planning. The event provided networking opportunities and resources for women-owned businesses. ABC 7
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A traveling exhibit from New York called Eyes on the Universe — featuring images from the Hubble Telescope — will open at the Museum of the Great Plains during the International Festival on September 21 between 2 and 4 p.m. The Friends of the Great Plains Museum host the event with support from a Lawton Arts and Humanities grant. - ➤ The Comanche National Museum and Cultural Center hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday to open its new National Treasures Room and Library—an exhibit that honors those who have promoted Comanche culture. Officials said the display now features two honorees and will add three more soon. ABC 7

- ➤ A Lawton student was named a semifinalist for the National Merit Scholarship 2026—a program that started in 1955 as a nonprofit source of funds for high school students and is now in its 71st year. The Lawton Constitution
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Lawton held a swearing-in ceremony on Sept. 8 at 5:15 p.m. where Lane Hooton became the new Ward 1 councilmember at the Wayne Gilley Auditorium in City Hall—he filled the vacancy left by former councilwoman Mary Ann Hankins-Booker and light refreshments were offered to the public.
