COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Salvation Army of Lawton opened a day center on September 19 to help homeless people. The center is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday — it works with local agencies to help residents move off the streets. ABC 7
- ➤ An Arvest Bank branch on Southwest Lee Boulevard is hosting a plant and bake sale today from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.—all funds will benefit the United Way of Southwest Oklahoma. Proceeds will help the local nonprofit meet its community support goals. ABC 7
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The 46th International Festival is coming to Elmer Thomas Park this weekend and will offer free entry with food, live music, vendors and a children's area—today at 5:45 p.m. an opening ceremony kicks off the three-day event with additional performances on Saturday and Sunday. ABC 7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City officials are moving forward with a rezoning plan that will let Firehawk Aerospace build a 3D rocket fuel manufacturing facility near Lawton’s west industrial area—officials say the project will start soon. The Lawton Constitution
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ D.O.V.E Family Veteran Association is a new nonprofit that plans to help at risk veterans in southwest Oklahoma during National Suicide Prevention Month by teaching families about triggers and warning signs—its board is working to raise funds and offer mental health programs at community events like Chickasha’s Twisterfest on Oct. 3—4.
