COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Lawton Public Library in partnership with Connected Nation and FISTA Innovation Park will host a free Tech Talk on Oct. 14 at FISTA Innovation Park on C Avenue—featuring panel discussions, demonstrations, and a post-panel reception to explore emerging technologies and tools.  ABC 7

CULTURE NEWS

  • KCA Headstart Center hosted its annual march to honor native heritage and show children the value of their cultural traditions—participants wore orange and carried posters for children who had lost their lives.  ABC 7
  • The Lawton Farmers Market and Lawton Public Library are partnering to host the 4th annual Local Author Festival on Oct. 11—an event that will feature local authors and book discussions. Organizers expect the festival to boost local literary activity.  The Lawton Constitution
  • The Museum of the Great Plains in Lawton preserves a large collection of artifacts that highlight the region's rich history—what is displayed in the galleries represents only part of its extensive holdings.  The Lawton Constitution

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cameron University launched the CU Professional Sales Center today to prepare students for sales careers—local businesses will use the center to connect with skilled graduates.  The Lawton Constitution

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Newly sworn-in Ward 1 Councilman Lane Hooton discussed his plans for Lawton during an interview with GMT anchors Kyle Weatherly and Dan Threlkeld today — his remarks focused on his future agenda for local governance.  ABC 7
  • The Comanche County assessor's office approved a one-year software support agreement with PlanetView GSI— a Chouteau-based company— on Sept.22 to help review properties in the state’s manufacturing exemption program. Five county businesses must file annual applications with the Oklahoma Tax Commission to maintain their tax exemptions.  Southwest Ledger
  • Comanche County commissioners reverted to their original 2025-2026 budget plan after weeks of rethinking funding for county offices—finalizing their plan for county operations.  The Lawton Constitution
  • The Medicine Park Board of Trustees approved the zoning change for properties at 121 and 130 Merry Circle—shifting them from residential to commercial—after a Sept 18 hearing with no objections. Property owner Nancy Washburn said the new rules limit the types of businesses allowed and she plans to sell the lots to a commercial developer.  Southwest Ledger

  • Lawton High lost to Noble last Thursday because star quarterback Joseph Simpson was injured, and head coach Lorenzo Williams said the team is working with a freshman and planning to run the ball well in their road game against John Marshall tomorrow — he added Simpson might be back sooner than expected.  ABC 7
