- ➤ The Lawton Public Library is partnering with the Comanche County Community Coalition to host a Red Ribbon Week Art Contest for grades 6 through 8 that invites students to create original art celebrating drug-free living. Submissions must be made in person at the Main Library or by email by Oct 31 and winners will be announced on Nov 14 — first place will receive a $50 gift card. ABC 7
- ➤ Lawton Animal Welfare is joining the national Empty the Shelters event (sponsored by the Bissell Pet Foundation) from today through Oct. 15, where families can adopt dogs for $25.75 and cats for $15.75 with a $17.25 deposit for animals too young for their rabies vaccination; it is open Tuesday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (closed for lunch 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.) and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. ABC 7
- ➤ KCCU Public Radio in Lawton is asking listeners to help cover a funding gap this fall after a significant federal funding cut—donations will help the station recover its lost budget. The Lawton Constitution

- ➤ The Comanche Academy Charter School is hosting a Fall Festival today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Dorothy Sunrise Lorentino Education Center on campus, and the free event offers food, crafts, raffles, a petting zoo and carnival games with an all-you-can-play bracelet for $10. ABC 7

- ➤ City officials completed terminal upgrades at Lawton-Fort Sill Regional Airport and now plan to add the airport road to the repair list—prompting plans for upcoming road repairs. The Lawton Constitution
