COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Halloween events will take place across Southwest Oklahoma with family-friendly activities such as free pumpkin painting at Batty’s Pumpkin Patch on Oct. 16 and community art night on Oct. 17. Lawton events will also offer trunk or treat celebrations, fall festivals and cook-offs—organizers have scheduled a range of activities for all ages throughout the month. ABC 7
- ➤ SouthWest Toyota of Lawton is hosting its 4th Annual Fall Festival on Oct. 18 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.—the event will feature a family costume contest and a range of games and activities for all ages. ABC 7
- ➤ USO Oklahoma will hold its annual Fall Festival on Fort Sill on Thursday, Oct. 16 at the USO building on post from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The free event features a chili bar, trunk-or-treat activities and games for children — fire trucks and police cars will be on display for families. ABC 7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Lawton Stormwater Management Division will mark one year of volunteer efforts with Stream Clean Saturday — an event on Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon at Numu Creek behind Walmart on Sheridan Road where over 7,000 pounds of trash were removed. ABC 7
- ➤ Members of the Kiowa, Comanche and Apache KCA Intertribal Land Use Committee joined Lawton officials on Monday at City Hall to sign a proclamation honoring Indigenous Peoples’ Day—City Manager John Ratliff read the document to highlight native cultural contributions. The weekend celebration also included a Pow Wow on Oct 11 and cultural activities at Cameron University. ABC 7
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Negotiations are nearing completion with a firm set to manage construction of the indoor youth sports complex planned near MacArthur secondary schools—city officials said the new venue will offer a safe space for local youth sports. Future steps will focus on finalizing the contract and starting construction soon. The Lawton Constitution
