COMMUNITY NEWS

  • House of Bread is accepting applications and sponsors for its Hope for Christmas program today and Friday—aiming to support families during the holiday season.  The Lawton Constitution

CULTURE NEWS

  • Texoma Premium Glass Solutions installed new glass doors and windows at the Cameron University Theatre Tuesday afternoon as part of a renovation to improve the building's appearance and safety — the project is one of several planned enhancements to modernize the campus facility.  The Lawton Constitution

ECONOMY NEWS

  • American Airlines started Oklahoma’s first nonstop international flight on November 8th from OKC Will Rogers International Airport to Cancún. The flight boosts business, tourism and military travel—making it easier for residents, including those in Lawton, to connect with the world.  Southwest Ledger
  • Public Service Co. of Oklahoma said customers in Lawton and nearby towns will pay about $12 less on their electric bills because of lower natural gas prices. The discount will last for six months as a typical customer (using 1,100 kilowatt-hours) sees a 7% drop until the next fuel review.  Southwest Ledger

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lawton Public Schools is restoring access to the Shoemaker Center—its administrative headquarters—from Fort Sill Boulevard. The district said the change will help visitors reach the center more easily.  The Lawton Constitution
  • Austyn Lawler, a Walters student, won a silver medal at the Oklahoma School for the Blind’s 13th annual Cane Quest competition in Muskogee on Nov. 5.  The Lawton Constitution
  • Lawton Public Schools approved a no-cellphone policy on June 9 that requires students in grades 6-12 to power off and store their phones in Faraday bags during school hours. Lawmakers and educators studied classroom technology use—revealing a debate over balancing digital tools with basic learning—and expect schools to support safe communication.  Southwest Ledger

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Public Service Company of Oklahoma is preparing to begin construction on the South Lawton Transmission Improvements Project — the project will upgrade local transmission lines and is expected to improve power reliability for residents.  The Lawton Constitution

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Oklahoma State Department of Health reminded parents today to stop using ByHeart Whole Nutrition baby formula due to botulism concerns—officials also advised sanitizing any items exposed and seeking care if symptoms occur. No cases have been confirmed in Lawton, although more than 20 infants in 13 states have been exposed so far.  ABC 7
