COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The McMahon Foundation announced on Wednesday that it is awarding more than $3M in grants to support military families, local nonprofits, arts and culture programs, and higher education in Southwest Oklahoma. The funds will help boost community projects across the region—supporting new local initiatives. The Lawton Constitution
- ➤ Bethlehem Baptist Church in Lawton will host a turkey giveaway Friday at 6 p.m. Each family may receive one turkey and must pre-register by calling (580) 794-5938 or (580) 585-2520. ABC 7
- ➤ Cameron University will host its annual tree lighting ceremonies to kick off the holiday season. The Duncan campus event on Dec. 2 will include mini-train rides, cookie decorating, s’mores and holiday beverages—while the Lawton campus event on Dec. 4 at Bentley Gardens will offer trinket-making, carriage rides and a sensory-friendly room, with both events featuring live performances and help from the university mascot Ole Kim. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Cameron University is hosting a listening session on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Mary Lou and W. Carey Johnson Auditorium in Ross Hall to gather community opinions for its strategic planning. Due to construction on Northwest 38th Street, attendees should use Southwest 27th Street—turn west on Southwest Elsie Hamm Drive then north on Black and Gold Boulevard, and parking is available on the west and south sides of Ross Hall. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lawton Police announced traffic closures and safety tips for Saturday’s Holiday in the Park parade starting at 6:30 p.m.—closures begin at noon near Central Plaza and continue with roadblocks at Elmer Thomas Park at 4:15 p.m. and Gore Boulevard at 4:45 p.m.—the department advises parents to keep children safe on sidewalks.
