COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Salvation Army in Lawton is hiring homeless people to ring bells at locations like Walmart and Sam’s Club + pay them $12 an hour as part of its Red Kettle season that aims to raise $140,000. Every donation is doubled + with about $40,000 set aside to help these workers while the remainder supports a local kids club. ABC 7
- ➤ FISTA and several local groups — including the Air Defense Artillery Association, Arvest Bank and the Friends of Fort Sill — worked with Fort Sill to pack Thanksgiving meal boxes with donated food and holiday items today. They expect to serve over 150 soldiers and families and help ensure the troops have a hearty meal for the holiday. ABC 7
- ➤ The Lawton Crafts, Arts and Hobbies Association started its Craft Harvest Craft Show on Friday (featuring handcrafted items and a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus) and will run through the weekend. The charity event will donate just under $12,000 to local food banks and other community organizations (with varied hours on Friday until 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.). EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Cameron University will close classes, offices, and the library for Thanksgiving from Nov. 26 through Nov. 28 — classes and offices will reopen on Dec. 1 while the library reopens on Nov. 29. The Aggie Rec Center will only close on Thanksgiving Day with adjusted hours on other days. ABC 7
