  • The Salvation Army of Lawton is opening its warming shelter to help up to 60 people amid an upcoming winter storm. The shelter is open from Friday, Jan. 24 at 8 a.m. to Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 4 p.m. at 1404 SW E Avenue.  ABC 7
  • Lawton mourns longtime officer Benjamin Lehew after his daughter, Shelby Phelps, announced his death Monday. Lehew worked at Fort Hood, led the Comanche County Detention Center, and served with multiple local agencies — a career spanning decades of public service.  ABC 7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cameron University has launched a new job board powered by Handshake for college students and employer partners, offering access to jobs and internships. Employers can register for the 2026 Red River Career Expo in March to connect with potential candidates.  Southwest Ledger
  • Twenty-three teachers will be inducted into the Comanche County Educators Hall of Fame on Saturday — the first class celebrating their service in education. The ceremony honors their contributions to local schools.  The Lawton Constitution

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Oklahoma lawmakers are proposing bills that require insurance companies to notify rate hikes 60 days ahead, giving the commissioner time to review changes & address rising homeowners insurance costs. Representative Stacy Jo Adams said the measure aims to bring transparency to rate increases.  ABC 7
