COMMUNITY NEWS

  • 7News interviewed board members Troy Moseley and Valarie Long on plans for a bull riding event at LO Ranch Arena, which will feature over 70 senior bull riders and live music + will raise funds for military hall of fame honorees and scholarships.  ABC 7

CULTURE NEWS

  • The City of Lawton Arts and Humanities Division and the International Festival Committee have invited volunteer performers for the 46th annual International Festival, a family-friendly event set for Sept. 27 to Sept. 29 at Elmer Thomas Park. Interested performers must apply by July 26 for a chance to appear on one of the two large festival stages—notifications will be sent by August 5.  ABC 7

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new study by Scioto Analysis finds that raising the minimum wage to $15 will reduce housing strain in Oklahoma under State Question 832 scheduled for a June 2026 ballot—this gradual increase by 2029 is projected to ease burdens for over 30,000 households, lower annual homelessness by 550, and reduce the demand for 330 shelter beds statewide.  ABC 7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Since 1990, Cameron University in Lawton has offered summer STEM programs for middle and high school students and will host its 36th annual STEM summer academies. The program helps prepare students for college and future jobs by giving them hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering and math.  The Lawton Constitution

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Lawton city board approved designers to move to the next phase for a new youth indoor sports complex today+ detailed construction plans will be developed soon+ the move advances the project’s design process.  The Lawton Constitution
  • Cache Mayor Scott Brown appeared on 7News (with anchors Tarra Jones and Dave Hunter) on May 12 to share updates about new businesses like Cali Burrito and Family Dollars and preview planned city council discussions on future projects and events.  ABC 7
  • Today, the Lawton City Council is expected to vote on a plan to extend the maturity date of a $9.35 million revenue note—this funding will support upgrades at the city airport.  The Lawton Constitution
  • An Interstate-44 off-ramp to Lee Blvd is closed today for surface repairs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Officials advise drivers to use caution and choose an alternate route.  ABC 7
  • Cameron University may join plans to upgrade Southwest 38th Street as the City Council reviews an agreement today—officials expect the project to improve local traffic and safety.  The Lawton Constitution
